Iraq announces the targeting of 14 towers with explosive devices and total darkness in Salah al-Din

On Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced that 14 power transmission towers were subjected to sabotage and a complete power outage in Salah al-Din Governorate.

The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, said, in statements to the Iraqi News Agency, that "14 energy transmission towers were targeted last night and this morning in Salah al-Din, with explosive devices that led to their sabotage," confirming a complete power outage in the province.

Moussa described the targeting as a "fierce attack on power transmission lines and towers."

The agency had previously quoted the director of electrical power transmission networks in Salah al-Din, Safa al-Janabi, as saying that "a number of electric power transmission towers feeding east Salah al-Din were destroyed , which led to a power outage in eastern Salah al-Din regions."

In the past few days, the Iraqi security authorities thwarted the bombing of one of the electricity towers that connects the capital, Baghdad, and the eastern province of Diyala, as part of similar sabotage operations that have increased in frequency recently.

This came according to what was reported by the Security Media Cell of the Ministry of Defense in a statement, noting that intelligence information was received about the intention of the terrorist organization "ISIS" to "detonate one of the main active towers linking Baghdad and Al-Quds Electricity Station in the Al-Waziriyah area between the governorates of Diyala and Baghdad."
