Erbil Authorities Successfully Address Water Supply Issues in Several Neighborhoods

The governor of Erbil, in collaboration with the General Directorates of Water and Sewage, has successfully tackled water supply problems affecting multiple neighborhoods in the city, bringing much-needed relief to residents.

Daily visits by the water directorate teams have led to the identification and resolution of these issues. Arsalan Khalil, a resident of Erbil's Mantikawa neighborhood, expressed his gratitude, noting that over 100 households in his area had endured water shortages for four months.

"Our neighborhood had been without water for over four months, and we had to buy water tankers weekly," Khalil said. "But after the teams from the Erbil Water Directorate visited, they managed to solve the problem completely."

Khalil also emphasized the importance of conserving water, urging citizens to avoid wastage.

To facilitate communication with the public, the Erbil Water Directorate has established six hotlines. In the Hawkari neighborhood, Bestun Yasin, an engineer with the directorate, responded to residents' requests and is actively working to address the water shortage.

"We have about 1,400 wells, and the production of all of them depends on electricity. Only a small number of wells have continuous electricity. With power shortages, there is also a shortage in water distribution, leading to increased demand by the citizens. We need to drill new wells and extend the water network in some areas," Yasin explained.

Water shortage issues have become more frequent in certain neighborhoods of Erbil during the summer season, particularly in recent years due to climate change and a decrease in groundwater levels, which are crucial for supplying some areas.

The coordinated efforts of the governor's office and the Water Directorate have provided much-needed relief to the residents, ensuring a more stable water supply amidst these challenges.
