A British Foreign Ministry delegation visited Kurdistan for talks on developments in the region and the current political situation in Iraq.

The delegation, which included the Head of Embassy Office David Karnis; Hugh Evans the British Consul General to the Kurdistan region held talks with Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Hemin Hawrami and a number of office members.



During the meeting, the delegation of the British Foreign Office issued a government resolution about Kurdistan, to expand the work of the British Consulate in the region, the establishment of another regional office in the near future and the start of direct flights from Britain to the Kurdistan region operated by British Airways.



The British delegation has confirmed that the British Government is committed to a longfriendship with Kurdistan, and that political and economic developments, stability and security in the Kurdistan region is motivated and encouraging which sees an opportunity for foreign investors and British companies.



Mr. Hawrami, on behalf of the KDP, thanked and appreciated the steps taken by Britain and declared that nationals of Kurdistan will never forget their support and the courageous decision of former Prime Minister Sir John Major in 1991 in assisting and protecting Kurdistan.



Mr. Hawrami also briefed the British delegation about internal matters to Kurdistan, parliamentary elections and the Presidency of the region, also the results of the visit of the Kurdistan delegation to Baghdad, and, on the prospects for the future and development of Syria.
