Turkish Warplanes Bomb Mawat District and Surrounding Areas

In a recent escalation of conflict, a Turkish warplane bombed the Baski Valley near the village of Galala in the Mawat district, Sulaymaniyah province. The airstrike occurred at a distance of only 300 meters from the village, Mayor Kamran Hassan reported to Kurdistan 24 on Saturday.

This attack follows a pattern of recent bombings in the region, marking the third time Sulaymaniyah province's borders have been targeted. The Aghjaler district border in Chamchamal township was also bombed on Saturday.

In a statement, the Turkish Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for the airstrikes, stating, "Our warplanes have destroyed 25 Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) hideouts in a series of air strikes." The ministry detailed that the attacks targeted caves, hideouts, warehouses, and residences of PKK commanders in the mountainous areas of Gara, Qandil, and Assos, spanning the provinces of Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah.

These airstrikes are part of Turkey's ongoing efforts to combat the PKK, which it designates as a terrorist organization. The continued bombings highlight the ongoing conflict and the heightened tensions affecting the Kurdish Region.

Local residents have expressed concerns over the safety and stability of the area as these military operations persist, impacting the lives of those living near the targeted zones.
