Erbil Police Service Urges Public to Report Threats, Reveals Details of Serious Case

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The Erbil Police Service has issued a public advisory urging citizens to utilize the service’s emergency line (104) whenever they face danger or threats. The announcement comes in the wake of a serious case involving a woman who sought police help after being threatened by a man identified as Luqman Mawlan Ismail.

The incident began when the woman contacted the police hotline, reporting that Ismail had threatened her. Taking the case seriously, the police launched an investigation and subsequently referred the matter to the judge at the Crime Court of Erbil. On January 1, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued against the perpetrator.

Upon legally searching Ismail's mobile phone, police uncovered evidence of threats against the victim and her cousin, identified only by their initials H.F.S. and D.G.S. Ismail had threatened to post indecent videos of them on social media.

The investigation revealed further disturbing details. Ismail's phone contained numerous inappropriate photos and videos, including content related to black magic, drugs, and other indecent materials. Additionally, there were audio recordings and threats against other women.

The police disclosed that Ismail had created several pages on social platforms under the name Govand Group (CTS). These pages were used to publish immoral and indecent, pornographic pictures, and to threaten women, particularly young girls. Ismail demanded large sums of money in exchange for not posting the compromising photos and videos.

In light of these findings, the Erbil Police Service reiterated the importance of contacting their hotline (104) whenever citizens face threats or harassment. "We urge our citizens to contact our hotline (104) whenever they face any threats and harassment, so that our teams can take actions by law," the police emphasized.
