Traffic Accident in Sulaimani Results in Two Deaths and Two Injuries

Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region – A traffic accident on the Sulaimani-Arbat road at approximately 9:15 am local time has led to the tragic death of two individuals and severe injuries to two others.

Saman Nadir, head of the Sulaimani Health Directorate's emergency unit, confirmed that several emergency teams were dispatched to the accident scene. Bakhtyar Mohammed, the media director of the Sulaimani Traffic Police Directorate, reported that the crash involved two vehicles, one of which was a taxi. The accident occurred when one of the vehicles, heading towards Arbat, lost control and veered into the lane going towards Sulaimani.

"Two people were killed in the crash and two others are severely injured," stated Mohammed.

Car accidents are notably frequent in the Kurdistan Region compared to many other areas. In November, Bahman Abdullah, spokesperson for the Sulaimani Traffic Police, highlighted that over 600 car accidents were reported in the province from January to August 2023, resulting in 92 fatalities and 2,189 injuries.

Data from the Region’s General Traffic Police Directorate indicated that in 2022, over 3,700 traffic accidents occurred across the Kurdistan Region, killing at least 445 people and injuring 7,250 others.
