Kurdish Kolber Sentenced to Death by Iranian Judiciary Amid Allegations of Forced Confession

In a highly controversial case, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran has sentenced Idris Ali, a 31-year-old Kurdish Kolber (porter), to death. The sentencing follows nearly three months of detention by security forces, during which Ali allegedly confessed under duress. This case has drawn significant concern from human rights organizations and international observers.

The third branch of the Urmia Revolutionary Court handed down the sentence based on charges of "spying for Israel." According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the confession was coerced by the Revolutionary Guards intelligence agency. Ali, a father of two from Sardasht, was arrested approximately three months ago by the Revolutionary Guards intelligence forces in his hometown and later transferred to Urmia political prison.

Following an appeal against his death sentence, Ali’s case has been referred to the Supreme Court. Despite this development, he has been denied basic legal rights, including access to a lawyer. The case also involves four other defendants who were released on bail after being detained for some time.

Human rights organizations have expressed deep concern over the fairness of the trials in Iran, particularly highlighting the use of forced confessions. The situation underscores broader issues related to human rights and judicial practices in the country.

International observers continue to monitor the case, urging the Iranian government to ensure fair trials and respect for human rights.
