Bahrain and Iran Begin Talks on Resuming Political Relations

Bahrain and Iran have agreed to establish the necessary mechanisms to initiate discussions aimed at resuming political relations between the two nations. This development follows a meeting held on Sunday in Tehran between Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and his acting Iranian counterpart, Bagheri Kani.

The meeting, reported by Bahrain’s state news agency (BNA), was part of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, which Zayani attended at Kani’s invitation.

During their bilateral talks, the foreign ministers emphasized the "fraternal historical relations" between Bahrain and Iran. They highlighted the bonds of religion, neighborliness, joint history, and common interests that connect the two countries, according to BNA.

The discussions mark a significant step towards mending the political rift and enhancing cooperation in various fields. The two nations have expressed mutual interest in strengthening ties, reflecting a broader regional trend towards reconciliation and collaboration.

Further details on the specific mechanisms and timeline for these talks are expected to emerge as both sides work towards re-establishing diplomatic relations.
