Kurdistan Regional Government Ready for Parliamentary Elections, Interior Minister Reaffirms

During a press conference, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Interior Minister Reber Ahmed confirmed the region's readiness to conduct parliamentary elections, asserting that the KRG has been prepared for this for two years. He announced the government's willingness to cooperate with the electoral commission to ensure a clean and fair electoral process.

Regarding relations between Erbil and Baghdad, Ahmed stated, "In Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's last two visits to Baghdad, the relationship has entered a new phase, and we expect some issues to be resolved soon, particularly concerning salaries and the budget. The issues related to oil and Article 140 have not yet been resolved, but the Prime Minister is making serious efforts to address them in the near future."

On the constitution and resolving issues between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, the Interior Minister emphasized, "The constitution is the document agreed upon by all Iraqi components and sects. We Kurds are pleased with its implementation, as most legitimate rights and demands and Iraq's problems can be solved through it. All ethnic and religious groups will feel their presence within the framework of the constitution, so we emphasize its implementation to protect Iraq and its sovereignty."

He added, "Implementing the constitution will benefit all Iraqi provinces and the Kurdistan Region, ensuring security and stability in the distribution of Iraqi wealth based on the constitution and active political participation of all components. Therefore, we believe that if the constitution is implemented, the federal government will succeed."

During a press conference on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, announced that the region's president, Nechirvan Barzani, had signed a regional decree setting the date for the next Kurdistan Parliament elections.
