US Delegation Visits Kobani Amid Rising Tensions with Turkey

An American delegation arrived in Kobani on Tuesday morning to meet with local leaders and address escalating concerns over Turkish threats and the potential for an invasion by Turkish-backed factions.

Two Kurdish sources confirmed to BasNews on Wednesday that the delegation’s primary objective was to engage with city leaders and assess the tense security situation resulting from recent Turkish military activity near the region.

The delegation is also focusing on extending a fragile truce between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and pro-Turkish factions along the strategic Qara Qozak Bridge and Tishrin Dam, both located south of Kobani.

Local residents have reportedly called on the United States to take stronger measures to deter Turkish aggression, including the establishment of American military bases in Kobani. The presence of the US delegation is viewed as a sign of Washington's commitment to preventing further escalation in the area.

According to a well-informed Kurdish source, this visit follows a Sunday report highlighting increasing fears among both Kurdish and Turkish communities in Kobani over the potential for a ground offensive by Turkish-backed forces.

The American delegation’s arrival comes as part of broader diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, with US officials engaging in negotiations with all involved parties.

Despite these efforts, violent clashes persist between SDF forces and Turkish-backed armed groups, particularly near the Tishrin Dam and Qara Qozak Bridge. The ongoing confrontations have caused significant casualties on both sides, complicating efforts for peace and stability.

As the situation remains precarious, both the local population and international observers are closely monitoring developments, hoping for a long-term resolution to the threats facing Kobani and its residents.
