President Nechirvan Barzani meets with UK Ambassador to Iraq

President Nechirvan Barzani had a meeting with UK Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen, this afternoon. The primary focus was a comprehensive discussion on the relations between the UK and Iraq, as well as the Kurdistan Region.

Delving into the broader context of Iraq, they focused on the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region as well as Kurdistan’s internal affairs. A focal point of their exchange was the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, with a shared emphasis on the vital importance of sustained dialogue in resolving outstanding issues within the constitutional framework. They agreed this dialogue is essential for safeguarding the rights of all stakeholders involved. President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that a joint understanding between Erbil and Baghdad is crucial for achieving stability in Iraq and for effectively addressing the existing problems in accordance with the Constitution.

They agreed on the significance of conducting the Kurdistan parliamentary elections this year, with the participation of all parties and communities. The UK Ambassador commended the efforts made by President Nechirvan Barzani in organizing these elections.

In attendance during the meeting was the UK Consul General in Erbil, where they engaged in a constructive exchange of views on various matters of mutual interest, alongside a thorough discussion of the latest regional developments.
