KDP Suspends Membership in Nineveh Provincial Council Citing Legal Violations
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) faction in the Nineveh provincial council has announced the suspension of its membership, citing numerous illegal attempts and violations of both the law and constitution.
In a press conference, Engineer Ahmad Sheikh Kanaan Kiki, leader of the KDP faction in the Nineveh provincial council, confirmed that all KDP faction members have suspended their membership. Kiki highlighted that the Nineveh provincial council has failed to comply with legal procedures, particularly in areas governed by Article 140, which holds significant legal and constitutional importance.
"The council's actions are a direct violation of the laws and procedures that are supposed to guide our administrative processes," Kiki stated. "This is especially concerning in areas covered by Article 140, which require strict adherence to legal and constitutional guidelines."
This suspension follows earlier actions by the KDP faction, which had declared the session's agenda illegal and contradictory to a directive from the Secretariat of the Federal Council of Ministers that called for no changes in provincial administrative units.
Despite these objections, the Nineveh provincial council proceeded with its session today, appointing new governors for several districts. The newly appointed governors are:
Saydo Khairi for Sinjar
Khalil Habsh for Tala'afar
Raad Nasser for Talkef
Ali Salih Mazi for Hazar
Ali Mohammed Jidaya for Shora
Osama Shahr for Gayra district
The KDP's suspension of membership raises significant concerns about the legality and legitimacy of the council's recent decisions. The situation underscores the ongoing political tensions and complexities within the region.
