PM Barzani Meets Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister to Discuss Bilateral Relations

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties between Erbil and Tehran.

According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in multiple sectors, with a particular emphasis on economic and trade exchanges based on mutual interests. Both sides expressed their commitment to expanding economic collaboration to drive regional prosperity.

Highlighting the significance of the discussions, PM Barzani took to his X account, stating: “Today, I spoke with DFM Ravanchi about developments in the region. We underlined the importance of strong bilateral relations, economic reform, and trade cooperation to drive mutual prosperity.”

Iran has historically maintained close political, economic, and security ties with the Kurdistan Region, playing a pivotal role in trade and cross-border relations. Trade remains a crucial component of their cooperation, with Iran serving as a major supplier of goods, food, and energy to Kurdistan.

In recent years, Erbil and Tehran have engaged in numerous discussions to facilitate trade, improve border crossings, and expand investment opportunities. The latest meeting reinforces ongoing efforts to bolster economic partnerships and further develop regional trade relations.
