Iran: "no rush" to reach agreement in Vienna talks
A spokesman for the government of outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani indicated that the government is not in a hurry to reach an agreement on reviving the nuclear agreement with the major countries during the few weeks remaining in power.
The Iranian Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted the spokesman, Ali Rabiei, as saying "the government is not ready to disregard the country's rights in exchange for signing an agreement during the remaining period of its rule."
He added that "everything that should be put forward from an Iranian point of view has been put on the dialogue table and discussed, and that Tehran adheres to its vision," and continued, "the talks have reached a stage where all parties must make their decisions."
But at the same time, he stressed that the government sees itself obligated to pursue the talks with a firm resolve in order to lift the sanctions at the earliest opportunity, and Rouhani is scheduled to leave office next August, and President-elect Ebrahim Raisi will assume his duties.
In previous statements, Rabiei had expressed his hope to revive the nuclear agreement and lift sanctions during the term of the current government, and said that "the current government is determined to accomplish its mission and hand over tasks to the next government without sanctions."
