President Masoud Barzani Urges Swift Formation of KRG Cabinet, Addresses Regional Challenges in New Year Message

Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), marked the New Year with a call for the expedited formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) tenth cabinet. He also highlighted the need to address critical regional challenges, including the evolving situation in Syria.

In a statement reflecting on the past year, Barzani praised the Kurdistan Parliament elections held in October, describing them as a clear expression of the Kurdish people’s will. He stressed the urgency of forming a functional cabinet, stating, “The people of Kurdistan have conveyed their message clearly, and it is imperative to respond by forming the new cabinet without delay.”

Barzani underscored that a well-functioning government is essential for implementing programs that serve the needs of the Kurdistan Region’s citizens. He also called for resolving disputes between the KRG and Iraq’s federal government through dialogue and constitutional principles, urging an end to barriers that undermine Kurdish rights.

On regional issues, Barzani highlighted the significance of developments in Syria, noting their potential to reshape the region’s political and social landscape. “These changes present an opportunity for Syria’s communities to establish coexistence, peace, and stability through mutual understanding,” he said.

The KDP leader warned of the dangers posed by ongoing crises, extremism, and violence, advocating for dialogue and a rejection of fanaticism. “Our region cannot endure further chaos. No side can impose its will on others,” Barzani remarked.

In his concluding remarks, Barzani expressed hopes for 2025 to be a year of peace, prosperity, and coexistence for all. He extended his heartfelt wishes to the people of Kurdistan, with special recognition of the families of martyrs and Peshmerga forces, who have made significant sacrifices for the region’s security and stability.
