Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Offers Condolences for Baku-Grozny Plane Crash Victims

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his condolences on Wednesday to the victims of the tragic Baku-Grozny plane crash, expressing his sympathies via the social media platform X.

“I’m deeply saddened by the tragic Baku-Grozny plane crash. My thoughts are with the victims and their families at this difficult time,” the Prime Minister stated.

The crash occurred when an Azerbaijani Embraer 190 aircraft, carrying 67 passengers, attempted an emergency landing near Aktau, Kazakhstan. According to officials, the crash claimed the lives of 38 people, while 29 passengers survived.

The flight, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, was en route from the Azerbaijani capital of Baku to Grozny in Russia’s North Caucasus region. It was diverted due to an unspecified emergency and crashed approximately 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from Aktau.

The incident has drawn widespread condolences and support from leaders and communities across the region, highlighting the shared grief over the tragic loss of life.
