President Barzani Welcomes Brazil's Ambassador to Iraq
Salahaddin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRP.org) – Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met with Brazil’s ambassador to Iraq Mr. Anwar Nahas in his office in Salahaddin yesterday.

Ambassador Nahas said that on the instructions of his country’s foreign minister and president he is visiting the Kurdistan Region to meet with President Barzani and expressed his country’s desire to establish close ties with the Kurdistan Region. He added that his government intends to upgrade its presence in Erbil to a full consulate in the near future to promote closer links.

After welcoming Brazil’s ambassador, President Barzani praised the government of Brazil for their decision to establish a consulate in Erbil and described it as an important step toward developing strong ties between the two sides.

The President and Brazil’s ambassador also discussed the political situation in Iraq and relations between Erbil and Baghdad. Ambassador Nahas commended President Barzani’s leadership role in the political process in Iraq, in developing strong ties with Turkey, and in the peace process currently underway between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers Party.
