Minister Falah Mustafa officially welcomes new Czech Ambassador
Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq - (DFR.krg.org) – The new ambassador from the Czech Republic to Iraq, Mr. Alexandr Langer, met with Minister Falah Mustafa today following his recent appointment.

Ambassador Langer presented his credentials in early January this year. The Czech Republic currently has an Embassy Liaison Office in Erbil.

The courtesy call is part of his broader visit with the EU delegation that is currently on a working visit to the Kurdistan Region.

Minister Mustafa congratulated him upon his appointment and assured him of the Department’s readiness to support his mission in Iraq. He said, “We want to see practical steps to upgrade the representation in Erbil as it would help further develop our ties.”

He also revealed several other countries that have expressed clear interest in establishing strong diplomatic presence in Erbil in light of the growing international interest.

The Head of Department of Foreign Relations also called upon Ambassador Langer to encourage further exchange of visits to help lay the foundations for increased economic and cultural activities.

Commenting on the EU Ambassadorial visit to Kurdistan, Ambassador Langer said that the meetings were productive and necessary. He said, “The meetings we had with the highest officials in Kurdistan have been very productive as it provides a platform to discuss matters of concerns.”

Ambassador Langer assured Minister Mustafa that he would work actively to increase the representation they currently have in Erbil.

He added, “There are many opportunities for both countries to develop relations in the political, economic and cultural aspects, and I’m sure that these relations will be mutually beneficial.”

The two sides discussed how the region could benefit from the expertise and experience of Czech businesses and more EU engagement in Kurdistan as a whole. Minister Mustafa said, “The EU can help build and support our institutions to empower the rule of law, further promote human rights, and other areas of importance for our people.”
