President Barzani: Ready to sacrifice my life for Kurdistan and always be a soldier (peshmarga) under a Kurdish flag
President Massoud Barzani announces in a special ceremony to mark the day of Kurdish flag on December 17 that flag is a sacred national emblem under which all Kurdish people can gather and it should be present and carried in all national ceremonies.
The president published his statement on his facebook page in both Kurdish Sorani and Badini dialects, and also in Arabic language:
"Today is the day of Kurdish flag. This flag was hung out for the first time in the Republic of Kurdistan in Mohabad. All the Kurdish revolutions have been carried out under this flag, for the sake of freedom, and many sacrificed their lives for it. We always remember the day when the leader Qazi Mohammed gave this flag to Barzani so as to be saved. I was born under this flag and I am ready to sacrifice my life for it and I will be always a soldier under it protecting my country. Flag is a sacred national emblem under which all Kurdish people can gather and it should be present and carried in all national ceremonies. Hence, Kurdistan Parliament, on the basis of this, made a decision to hold celebrations each year to mark the anniversary of hanging Kurdish flag for the first time on 17th December.
"Out of a sense of my patriotic duty I ask all the government institutions and people of Kurdistan to look at the ceremony with respect and reverence, and to celebrate it in a way that deserves all the souls sacrificed for it generation by generation.
"I take this opportunity also to send my salute to all Kurdish mothers in general and martyr mothers in particular, as this day coincides with Mother's Day. Our nation has mothers who brought up offsprings for their nation that we always have right to be proud of them."
