A Turkish drone strike targeted a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) position in Kobani, northern Syria, on Tuesday evening, further escalating tensions in the already volatile region.

According to local sources reported by BasNews, the strike hit Mishtanur Hill, a key strategic site overlooking the city from the south. Footage from the scene showed smoke billowing from the area, though the extent of casualties and damage remains unclear.

Additional Turkish strikes were reported on SDF positions at Mount Qara Barkal, south of Kobani, and near the Qara Qozak Bridge. These attacks coincided with advances by Syrian armed factions toward Kobani after capturing the strategic city of Manbij and reaching the Qara Qozak Bridge.

The intensification of clashes and artillery bombardments around Qara Qozak Bridge has triggered a wave of displacement, with residents from dozens of villages in southern Kobani fleeing toward the city. The influx of displaced families has heightened the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the war-torn region.

The escalation comes as Syria faces a significant power shift. On Sunday, Syrian rebel forces seized the capital, Damascus, after a swift two-week offensive. President Bashar al-Assad fled the city, marking a dramatic turning point in Syria’s 13-year civil war. While rebel factions declared victory, Assad’s whereabouts remain unknown, and celebrations erupted in the capital.

Turkey, which views the Kurdish-led SDF as an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has maintained a hardline stance against negotiating with Syrian Kurdish forces. Ankara considers the PKK a terrorist organization and has consistently launched cross-border operations targeting Kurdish militants in Syria.

The recent developments highlight the ongoing volatility of Syria's political landscape, with the collapse of the Assad regime introducing new uncertainty into the region.
