KDP and PUK Meet in Sulaimani to Discuss Formation of KRG’s Tenth Cabinet

Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region — Senior delegations from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) met in Sulaimani on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, to advance discussions on the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) tenth cabinet, as well as other critical political matters.

Dilshad Shahab, a member of the KDP’s negotiating committee, told Kurdistan24 that the meeting is part of a series of ongoing discussions with Kurdistan's political parties. The agenda focuses on cabinet formation and legal steps following the official results of the region’s sixth parliamentary election.

The KDP delegation, including Hoshyar Zebari, Pshtiwan Sadiq, Dilshad Shahab, and Omed Sabah, met with PUK representatives, led by Qubad Talabani, and joined by Rewas Fayaq, Rizgari Haji Hama, Salar Sarhed, and Samir Hawrami.

This meeting marks a critical phase in shaping the Kurdistan Region’s governance for the next four years. As the two dominant political forces in the region, the KDP and PUK play a central role in coalition-building and ensuring political stability.

The negotiations, which follow the recent parliamentary elections, aim to bridge differences and establish a government that reflects the interests of the Kurdistan Region’s diverse population. Historically, the KDP and PUK have maintained influence in their respective strongholds of Erbil and Sulaimani, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the two parties for regional stability.

The outcomes of these discussions will set the tone for the next government and its approach to governance, development, and regional challenges.
