U.S. Calls for Widespread Voter Participation and Fair Elections in Kurdistan Parliamentary Vote
As the Kurdistan Region holds its parliamentary elections, the United States has called for broad voter participation and a commitment to a transparent and fair electoral process.
In a statement, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski emphasized the critical role of citizens in shaping the future of the region. "It is important for all eligible voters in the Iraqi Kurdistan region to participate in the parliamentary elections and make their voices heard," Romanowski said, stressing that voting is "the backbone of a successful democracy."
The ambassador also called on political parties and stakeholders to uphold the integrity of the elections, ensuring they are "free and fair, without violence or intimidation," and that the results reflect "the will of the people."
With over 2.6 million eligible voters expected to cast their ballots across the Kurdistan Region today, the international community is closely watching the elections. The results are expected to shape the political landscape for the next several years.
