Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and US Ambassador Discuss Middle East Tensions

Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski in Baghdad on Sunday to discuss the escalating violence in the Middle East. According to a statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, the two officials emphasized the need for urgent efforts to contain the crisis and prevent further destabilization in the region.

During the meeting, Hussein called on the US to exert pressure on Israel to halt its ongoing military operations in Gaza and Lebanon. He warned that the continuation of these actions could lead to a broader conflict across the Middle East. The talks also touched on Hussein's recent visit to Washington, where he met with senior US officials to discuss regional and bilateral issues.

The discussion follows heightened concerns from Iraqi leaders about the potential for full-scale war. On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani spoke with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, stressing that the escalation of violence by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon poses a serious threat to regional stability. Al-Sudani called for the European Union to intervene and help stop what he described as Israeli aggression.

The meetings and diplomatic outreach reflect Iraq’s increasing efforts to mediate and prevent the conflict from spreading, as tensions continue to rise between Israel and various militant groups in Lebanon and Gaza.
