KDP Calls for Restraint Amid Rising Tensions After Assassination of Hezbollah Leader Nasrallah

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) parliamentary bloc has urged all parties to exercise restraint in order to prevent further regional escalation following the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of Lebanese Hezbollah.

In a statement released on Sunday, the KDP bloc in the Iraqi Parliament expressed deep concern over the situation and offered condolences for "the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah." The bloc extended sympathies to the families of the victims, voicing solidarity during this difficult time.

"We announce our deep concern regarding the recent developments and the expansion of the circle of war, which has spread to Lebanon and is targeting innocent civilians," the KDP statement read.

The bloc warned that the ongoing military escalation could have severe repercussions. "The continuation of military escalation will lead to serious repercussions and further destruction and devastation. We warn that these ongoing events pose a threat to security and stability," the statement added.

The KDP parliamentary bloc called on all parties involved to "exercise restraint to prevent the deterioration of the situation and reduce tension in the region."

This appeal follows an airstrike by Israeli forces on Friday, which targeted Hezbollah’s headquarters in Lebanon. The attack claimed the lives of Nasrallah, several Hezbollah leaders, and a senior commander of Iran’s Quds Force. Hezbollah officially confirmed Nasrallah's death in a statement released on Saturday.

The assassination has heightened concerns of further regional instability as tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East.
