Conflict Between Israel and Hezbollah Disrupts Air Travel, Severely Impacts Erbil-Beirut Route

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has caused widespread disruption, with thousands displaced and air travel significantly affected. Among the impacted routes is the Erbil-Beirut connection, where security concerns have led to a sharp decline in outbound travel from Erbil to Lebanon.

Despite the escalating tensions, flights from Lebanon to Erbil International Airport have continued uninterrupted. However, travel from Erbil to Beirut has seen a severe drop as residents avoid the route due to the hostilities.

Ahmed Hoshyar, Director of Erbil International Airport, reported that the four weekly scheduled flights between Erbil and Lebanon have experienced a sharp decline in passengers. "While flights from Lebanon to Erbil are still operating, there are almost no passengers on the outbound flights due to the unstable situation," Hoshyar said.

In contrast, international airlines have taken more drastic measures. French carriers Air France and Transavia have suspended flights to Lebanon until October 1, while Germany's Lufthansa has halted services until later in the month. Neighboring countries, including Jordan and Egypt, have also temporarily suspended flights to Lebanon, further isolating the nation amidst the growing conflict.
