PM Barzani Stresses Importance of Upcoming Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who also serves as Vice President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with key figures from Erbil on Thursday to emphasize the significance of the upcoming parliamentary elections set for October 20.
PM Barzani underscored the impact of the election results on all citizens of the Kurdistan Region, urging active participation. “Any decision made in the elections will affect us all. We must engage in a frank discourse,” he stated, warning that choosing not to vote still constitutes a decision, as it allows others to make choices on behalf of non-voters.
He described the elections as a pivotal moment for the future of governance and the status of the Kurdistan Region, while expressing optimism for its development. Barzani envisioned a prosperous future, stating his hopes for Kurdistan to become one of the most developed regions in the world, although he acknowledged the challenges ahead.
With the approval of 1,191 candidates by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq, the Prime Minister hailed the robust democratic process in the region. He called for unity and active citizen participation, emphasizing that this election is crucial for shaping the future of Kurdistan.
