KRG Prime Minister Bids Farewell to the Canadian Ambassador

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) bade farewell to Kathy Bunka, the Ambassador of Canada to Iraq.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked Ambassador Bunka for her efforts in strengthening bilateral relations and wished her success in her future endeavors.

Ambassador Bunka reiterated Canada’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and trade with the Kurdistan Region. In this regard, a delegation of a group of Canadian companies specialising in agriculture is scheduled to visit the Region later this year.

During the meeting they discussed the current state of affairs between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government and the recent rounds of negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad. They both emphasised the importance of maintaining an open and constructive dialogue between the regional and federal government that must be based on the respect for the Iraqi constitution and the Kurdistan Region’s federal structure within Iraq.
