Kurdistan Region Conducts Third Experimental Vote Ahead of October Elections

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – On Thursday, the Kurdistan Region carried out its third experimental vote as part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 20, 2024. This test vote was conducted across all four constituencies of the Region.

According to sources from BasNews, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission set up two polling stations within commission offices, along with biometric registration stations, to simulate the election process. The primary objective of this exercise was to identify and rectify any technical or procedural issues that could potentially disrupt the actual election.

This marks the third in a series of trial runs organized by the commission. Previous tests had uncovered several technical issues, which have since been addressed. A fourth and final experimental vote is scheduled for next month.

The upcoming election will see 95 seats contested in the Kurdistan Parliament, with an additional five seats reserved for various communities within the Region. The election date, announced by Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on June 26, has garnered approval from international leaders and foreign missions. The event is expected to draw a significant number of international observers, including European election monitors, underscoring its importance on the global stage.
