President Masoud Barzani Marks 78th Anniversary of KDP, Highlights Party’s Historical Role in Kurdish Struggle
Erbil, August 16, 2024 – President Masoud Barzani, in a message commemorating the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), emphasized the party’s pivotal role in the historical struggle and resilience of the Kurdish people. He described the establishment of the KDP on August 16, 1946, as a "historical necessity" during a time of great challenge for the Kurdish nation.
In his statement, President Barzani congratulated all KDP cadres, members, and supporters, as well as the families of martyrs, the heroic peshmergas, and all segments of the Kurdish community. He expressed his hopes for continued prosperity and strength for the Kurdish people.
Barzani reflected on the origins of the KDP, noting that it was founded under the leadership of the immortal Mullah Mustafa Barzani. He stressed that the party was created to continue the Kurdish people's struggle against the forces that sought to suppress their revolution and break their will for liberation. "Since its founding, the Kurdistan Democratic Party has been a means to empower the people of Kurdistan to achieve their democratic, national, and patriotic goals," Barzani stated.
The President reiterated that the KDP was established to serve and liberate the Kurdish people, ensuring that they live with dignity and pride. He emphasized the importance of preserving and fortifying the Kurdish cause, urging KDP members to uphold the party’s great historical significance and the sacrifices made by its martyrs.
"As long as the Kurdistan Democratic Party is strong, Kurdistan will also be strong," Barzani declared, underscoring the KDP’s role in the ongoing defense of Kurdish rights and achievements.
