PM Barzani Condemns Assassination Attempt on Kurdish Democratic Party Leader

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Region has strongly condemned the recent assassination attempt on Akram Saleh, the leader of the 22nd branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Germian. In an official statement issued on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Barzani declared, "I unequivocally condemn the attempted assassination of Mr. Akram Saleh. It is imperative that our security agencies swiftly uncover the perpetrators responsible for this heinous terrorist act."

Saleh himself, addressing the press on July 15, 2024, following the harrowing incident, described how his personal vehicle was targeted by an explosive device strategically placed underneath it. He urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation, stressing the importance of reviewing surveillance footage to identify the individuals behind the attack.

During the press conference, Saleh recounted the details of the attack, noting that while he, his driver, and a Peshmerga member sustained minor injuries, his vehicle was completely destroyed in the blast. Emphasizing that there were no personal conflicts driving the attack, Saleh expressed confidence in the security forces' ability to uncover the truth.

Prime Minister Barzani echoed these sentiments, vowing that those responsible for the failed assassination attempt would face justice for their actions. The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for heightened security measures in the region as investigations continue.
