Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Discusses Salaries of Security Forces with Iraqi Counterpart
Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has engaged in discussions with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani regarding the salaries of security forces, a pressing issue that has garnered significant attention. Peshawa Hawaramani, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), assured that the matter would be resolved soon.
Prime Minister Barzani conducted a telephone call with his Iraqi counterpart on Wednesday to address the salaries of the Region’s Peshmerga and security forces. “The salary issue for the Peshmerga Ministry and other security forces will be resolved soon,” affirmed Hawaramani.
On the same day, Prime Minister Barzani chaired a meeting of the KRG’s Council of Ministers. One of the key agenda items was the June salaries for employees and the overdue salaries for May and June for Peshmerga forces and security agencies in the region. During this meeting, Barzani briefed the Council on his discussions with Prime Minister al-Sudani.
Despite the ongoing discussions, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance has not yet disbursed salaries to the Peshmerga and other security agencies in the Kurdistan Region. According to the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Kurdistan Region employs 1,114,194 salaried workers, with a total monthly payroll amounting to approximately 913 billion Dinars.
The resolution of this issue is crucial for maintaining the morale and operational effectiveness of the Peshmerga and other security forces, which play a vital role in ensuring the stability and security of the Kurdistan Region. The KRG remains optimistic that the discussions will lead to a timely and satisfactory resolution.
