On Thursday, 13 June 2024, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Laila Bakr, Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the Arab States. The meeting addressed the UNFPA's current projects and activities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, focusing on development and population census training in preparation for the upcoming Iraqi population census scheduled for November this year.

Both sides agreed on the necessity of cooperation between the KRG, the Iraqi government, and UNFPA to ensure a successful census. They emphasised that the process should be conducted solely for development purposes and carried out fairly, without any political manipulation.
