Dizayee Announces Iraqi Prime Minister’s Support for Resuming Kurdistan’s Oil Exports

On 15 April 2024, Safeen Dizayee, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Department of Foreign Relations, announced at a press conference in Washington D.C. that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani supports restarting oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. Prime Minister Al Sudani is also committed to addressing the ongoing issues between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Dizayee reported that President Joe Biden emphasised the importance of resolving these regional disputes through dialogue. The President highlighted that the stability of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq is crucial for U.S. interests.

Furthermore, Dizayee mentioned that Prime Minister Al Sudani has requested a review of the Strategic Framework Agreement between Iraq and the United States, seeking amendments to certain clauses.

Regarding the financial rights of the Kurdistan Region, Dizayee expressed hope that the issue of public servant salaries should not be leveraged as political pressure against the region.
