President Nechirvan Barzani had a meeting with the newly appointed Canadian Ambassador to Iraq, Ms. Kathy Bunka, on Wednesday afternoon. The President conveyed the Kurdistan Region’s wish to enhance relations with Canada and emphasized the need to elevate the level of Canadian representation in the Kurdistan Region.

Ambassador Bunka, on her part, expressed her great pleasure in assuming her new role and visiting the Kurdistan Region. She emphasized that her country places significant importance on its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, she mentioned that efforts are underway to increase their country’s representation in the Kurdistan Region.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed various topics including the federal system, the upcoming Kurdistan Region elections, as well as the overall situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
