Erbil Veterinary Directorate to Build Shelter for Stray Dogs, Ensuring Citizen Safety

In an effort to minimize the risk of street dogs in Erbil, the Veterinary Directorate has announced plans to construct a dedicated shelter for stray and abandoned dogs.

The shelter aims to provide a safe haven for these animals while also ensuring the safety of Erbil's citizens. Rose Siddiq, the supervisor overseeing the project, spoke with the Media and Information Department to shed light on the significance of this initiative.

The construction of the shelter, spanning an extensive area of 49,000 square meters (equivalent to 20 acres), is estimated to cost 455 million dinars. The allocation of such resources demonstrates the commitment of the Veterinary Directorate to tackle the pressing issue of stray dogs in Erbil.

Rose Siddiq emphasized the primary objective of the shelter, which is to gather and care for stray dogs found roaming the streets of Erbil. By providing a central facility for these animals, the shelter aims to address the risks associated with stray dogs attacking citizens. The project prioritizes the safety of the community while ensuring the humane treatment and welfare of these stray animals.

The establishment of this shelter is expected to have a positive impact on the well-being of both the citizens of Erbil and the stray dog population. The facility will offer various services, including veterinary care, feeding, and rehabilitation, to ensure that the dogs receive the necessary attention and support.

The Veterinary Directorate's decision to address the issue of street dogs highlights the importance of responsible animal welfare and the recognition of the potential dangers these animals can pose to public safety. By proactively intervening and providing a sheltered environment, Erbil is taking significant strides in creating a safer and more compassionate community for both humans and animals.

The construction of the shelter for stray dogs represents a notable milestone in Erbil's efforts to mitigate the risks associated with street dogs. It serves as a testament to the Veterinary Directorate's commitment to promoting animal welfare and protecting the citizens of Erbil.
