Barzani and Iraqi PM Sudani Meet to Strengthen KRG-Baghdad Relations

Erbil, Kurdistan Region — On Wednesday, President Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani in Erbil to discuss vital political issues and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government of Iraq.

According to a statement released by Barzani Headquarters, the meeting focused on bolstering KRG-Baghdad relations, with both leaders underscoring the importance of productive collaboration to address shared challenges and ensure stability across Iraq. They reviewed recent political developments and assessed their potential impacts on regional stability and economic growth.

Prime Minister Sudani extended his congratulations to President Barzani on the recent successful parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region. He expressed optimism that Kurdish parties would reach an agreement soon to form a new government, which is expected to contribute to a unified and cooperative political landscape within the region. Both leaders emphasized the need for unity among Iraq’s diverse factions to promote lasting stability.

The visit marked a significant occasion, as Prime Minister Sudani’s arrival in Erbil was warmly received by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani at Erbil International Airport. Following the welcome, Prime Minister Sudani also held separate discussions with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani to address various topics of mutual interest.

The meeting highlighted a renewed commitment from both the federal and regional governments to cooperate closely in addressing pressing issues facing Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, reinforcing their partnership to support peace and development across the nation.
