Iraqi PM Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani Visits Kurdistan Region to Discuss Key Issues with Kurdish Leaders
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani arrived in Erbil on Wednesday morning, where he was welcomed by Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani at Erbil International Airport. Shortly after his arrival, Al-Sudani held a meeting with Prime Minister Barzani, who received congratulations on the successful Kurdistan parliamentary elections. Al-Sudani emphasized that political stability in the Kurdistan Region is essential to Iraq’s stability as a whole.
This visit, which included an official welcome by Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, is part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between the federal and regional governments. Al-Sudani is expected to meet with other senior Kurdish officials to address longstanding and current issues.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed crucial topics, including budget allocations, public sector salaries, oil exports, and the implementation of recent federal court decisions affecting salary disbursements in the Kurdistan Region. Both sides emphasized the importance of separating salary payments from political conflicts, ensuring fair distribution across Iraq.
Discussions also highlighted the need for cooperation in resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, with a commitment to resolving logistical and regulatory challenges to benefit citizens in both the region and the rest of Iraq.
As part of Iraq's upcoming general population census, the Kurdistan Regional Government stressed that the Region's observations be taken into account, noting the census's significance for nationwide development and planning.
Al-Sudani's visit underscores the commitment of both governments to strengthen ties and collaboratively address shared concerns, aiming for a sustainable partnership that supports stability and prosperity throughout Iraq.
