On April 24, 1974, the Iraqi Ba'ath regime dropped napalm bombs on the border town of Qaladze, which also housed the University of Sulaimani. The bombing resulted in the deaths of over a hundred people, including students and lecturers. Today, nearly five decades later, the tragic incident is still remembered as a symbol of the suffering endured by the Kurdish people.
In 1982, local residents of Qaladze held a peaceful demonstration to commemorate the massacre, but the Ba'ath regime responded with brutal force, cracking down violently on the protestors.
The Qaladze bombing and subsequent crackdown on the demonstration serve as reminders of the atrocities committed against the Kurdish people under the regime of Saddam Hussein. The event is also a testament to the resilience and determination of the Kurdish people in their fight for freedom and independence.
The Kurdish people have a long history of struggle and sacrifice, and their fight for independence and self-determination continues to this day. The commemoration of the martyrs of Qaladze and other Kurdish heroes serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle and the need to continue to strive towards a peaceful and just future.
