President Nechirvan Barzani meets with Ambassadors of France and Germany

President Nechirvan Barzani received on Sunday in Erbil the French Ambassador to Iraq, Éric Chevalier and the German Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Martin Jaeger along with their accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on the bilateral relations of the Kurdistan Region with France and Germany, the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region, the situation in Iraq, the Federal Government’s agenda, Erbil-Baghdad relations and the efforts to resolve the issues between the two sides. The issue of the energy sources and the Kurdistan Region’s position and capacities in this context were highlighted.

President Nechirvan Barzani and the guest delegation agreed on the importance of supporting the Iraqi Federal Government to implement its agenda according to the agreements among the political parties that led to the formation of the incumbent cabinet, stressing the significance of unity of the political parties in the Kurdistan Region.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the French-German Élysées Treaty, the German and French Ambassadors presented an overview of the project to build the future joint French-German cultural institute in Erbil. They also stressed their countries’ desire to develop relations with Kurdistan Region in all fields, especially in the field of culture.

President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the gratitude of the Kurdistan Region to France and Germany for their assistance in political, military, economic, human and cultural fields, and considered the laying of the foundation stone of the future joint French-German cultural institute in Erbil as an important step in promoting cultural ties of the Kurdistan Region with France and Germany.

The meeting also discussed the relations between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with neighboring countries and the wider region, the latest developments in the region and other issues of common interest.
