In the presence of President Massoud Barzani, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani took part in a ceremony held today [on Saturday] at Erbil International Airport to receive the bodies of 100 Barzani victims of the genocidal Anfal.

At the ceremony, attended by the UN Secretary-General’s Representative, the Speaker of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, the Vice Presidents of the Kurdistan Region, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, the representative of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi House of Representatives, a number of officials from the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, representatives of political parties and communities, foreign representatives and diplomats, speeches were delivered by President Masoud Barzani, the representative of the Iraqi Prime Minister, the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Victims of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq.

Later during the ceremony, a documentary film was screened about the genocide of the 8,000 Barzani adolescent children and men, who were abducted and massacred 39 years ago today, in the summer of 1983, by the then Iraqi regime. Later, participants laid wreaths on the remains of the victims.

The remains of the 100 Barzani victims of Anfal will be laid to rest tomorrow Sunday in a ceremony at the Barzani Anfal Victims Monument in Barzan area.
