Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani is closely monitoring the situation in Erbil Governorate after heavy rains triggered floods and landslides, affecting many families in the area. The President made a phone call to Erbil’s Governor, Mr. Omed Khoshnaw on Friday, to follow up on the situation in the flood-hit districts of Erbil Governorate and its surrounding districts, where unfortunately a number of citizens lost their lives and several others were injured due to the flash floods.

The President expressed his condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and emphasized that the relevant authorities and government institutions prioritize and accelerate rescue efforts, provide emergency support to the affected families and people in the area, and that hospitals be on high alert to receive and treat flood victims.

The Governor briefed the President about the condition of the flash flood areas, the ongoing rescue efforts being made for the affected communities and the response from the relevant authorities who continue to provide swift assistance to the victims and remain on high alert.
