United States: Postponing elections enter Iraq into complex crisis
The US ambassador in Baghdad, Matthew Toler, welcomed, on Saturday, the decision to hold early elections in Iraq, considering that the postponement option would plunge the country into a more complex crisis.
In an interview with Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath, he said that the early elections were a basic demand of the Iraqi people, and that is why Iraq will go on a highly worrisome path if the merit is not achieved.
On the other hand, the ambassador announced that the United States is working to secure energy for Iraq, away from dependence on Iran.
This came after the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq announced last week the presence of 130 international observers across the country, in order to monitor the electoral process and provide support and technical advice.
It also revealed that the Electoral Assistance Office of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) is working on completing the preparations related to monitoring the electoral process.
He also stressed that there are no similarities between Iraq and Afghanistan.
He pointed out that the US mission in Iraq is completely different from what it is in Afghanistan.
The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq had announced earlier this month that the tenth of next October will be an inevitable date for holding the elections, noting that the distribution of biometric voter cards will begin within days.
In turn, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi indicated that there are those who fear the results of early elections in Iraq, pointing out that these people are trying to spread despair in the hearts of citizens.
