The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) welcomed the US Treasury's announcement on Wednesday of sanctions targeting the Turkish-backed "Ahrar al-Sharqiyya".

The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued a statement on Thursady regarding the American measures to punish the "Ahrar al-Sharqiyya" faction.

"The US Treasury recently announced a new package of sanctions targeting Syrian entities and personalities, including the Turkish-backed “Ahrar al-Sharqiya” faction, against the background of documented war crimes and grave violations committed by this faction and its inclusion of ISIS terrorist elements into its ranks which was confirmed by former international and local reports," reads the statement.

In its statement, SDF called "the international community and human rights organizations to continue political and legal pressure on other similar organizations and their supporters against the background of the crimes committed."

The SDF also called for "a comprehensive and rapid international action to collect more evidence, listen to the victims, and initiate legal procedures to bring the leaders and elements of this faction to international courts."
