Jordan sets 2022 for electrical interconnection with Iraq

The Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources expected that the Jordanian-Iraqi electrical interconnection project would start operating next year.

The ministry stated in the annual report of its achievement for the year 2020, that an agreement was signed for a contract to supply electric power to the Iraqi side, and the implementation of the project was started in the first phase, according to which one thousand gigawatt-hours will be exported annually from Jordan to Iraq.

The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity had announced in the year 2020 that the American company, General Electric, would conduct electrical interconnection work with Jordan, and that the Gulf Interconnection Authority had informed Iraq of the imminent resumption of work on the electrical interconnection project.
