Kurdistan Parliament Designates April 22 as Kurdish Journalism Day
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Parliament on Wednesday designated April 22 every year as the Kurdish Journalism Day.

The resolution was passed during today’s sitting at the parliament where 101 lawmakers voted in favor.

It will go into effect after publication in the Kurdistan Gazette.

April 22 marks the day when the first Kurdish-language newspaper was published in 1898.

Kurdish intellectual Miqdad Madhat Badirkhan published the newspaper, named ‘Kurdistan’, in Cairo to oppose the ethnic cleansing attempts against the Kurds under the rule of the Ottoman Empire.
