Iraq to send 15 Billion IQD to Syrian Refugees in Kurdistan Region
As about 30,000 Syrians, the vast majority of them Kurds, have fled the region over a five-day stretch and crossed the border to Kurdistan region, Iraqi government decided to provide aid for Syrian refugees sheltered in Kurdistan.

Nuri al-Maliki’s office today informed the Kurdistan Regional Government of their plan to send 15 Billion Iraqi Dinars to the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in order to help the region provide the basic needs and necessities of the refugees.

In recent days, about 30,000 Syrian Kurds, seeking to escape persecution at the hands of Jihadists, have been crossing the border into the autonomous Kurdish area of northern Iraq.

Another 4,000 made the trek across the frontier Tuesday, said Youssef Mahmoud, a spokesman for the UNHCR in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Some 55,000 Syrians already live at the Domiz refugee camp in Dohuk, west of Irbil, according to the UNHCR.
