US Reopens Consulate in Erbil
US Ministry of Foreign Affairs reopened its Consulate General in Erbil today after they decided to close it down temporarily along with more than 20 other embassies earlier this week, media reported.

In a new statement by US Ministry of Foreign Affairs, American officials decided to reopen a few numbers of their embassies they closed down few days ago, including its consulate in Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan.

The Department of State still has instructed 19 of US embassies and consulates to remain closed. While US consulate in Erbil reopened today.

The State Department listed the embassies on Friday, which range from Algeria to Yemen and beyond. Spokeswoman Marie Harf on Thursday called the step "precautionary."

A travel alert issued Friday said department information suggests there might be an increased risk of attacks by Al Qaeda or affiliates for the month of August.
