Two Koreas hold first official talks in years
Officials from North and South Korea met at the border between the two Asian nations on Sunday, as they began arranging cabinet-minister level talks later in the week — the first such official talks between the contentious neighbors in years.

The talks between two nations were held at the demilitarized border between the two nations known as Panmunjom, as the "Freedom House" on the South Korea side.

The unassuming structure is where the truce that put an end to the Korean War was signed in the 1950s, and has become the standard meeting place for representatives from North and South.

"The two sides shared the understanding in regards to the ministers' meeting," said ministry spokesman Kim Hyung-suk to Yonhap, which added that the cabinet-minister level talks are likely to take place Wednesday.

"Today's working-level talks will be a chance to take care of administrative and technical issues in order to successfully host the ministers' talks," said South Korean delegate Unification Policy Officer Chun Hae-sung to the Associated Press, prior to Sunday's meeting.

He added to AP "that the development of South and North Korean relations starts from little things and gradual trust-building."

The talks may require longer than a day to be finished, noted a source to Yonhap, who added that "several more meetings may be needed for an agreement is finally ironed out."
