Funeral for three Kurdish female leaders will take place in Northern Kurdistan on Jan 16
A funeral ceremony will be organized on Jan. 16 in Diyarbakır for the three Kurdish female leaders who were activists of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Europe but were murdered last week in Paris. Turkish Media has reported the time and locations of the upcoming funerals.

A crowd is expected to welcome the women’s remains when they arrive at the southeastern province’s airport on the same day. The bodies will subsequently be taken to Bayramoğlu Mosque, according to Hurriyet.

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Provincial head Zübeyde Zümrüt said they would be issuing a call on residents to “halt life” in the city and attend the funeral ceremonies.

The bodies will be sent separately to each of the victims’ hometowns after the ceremonies. Sakine Cansız, who was a founding member of the PKK, will be buried in Tunceli; Fidan Doğan will be taken to Elbistan in the southern province of Kahramanmaraş, while Leyla Söylemez will be buried in Diyarbakir.

The three were killed in an execution-style hit at a Kurdish center in Paris on Jan. 9. The identity of the killers remains unknown.
