No casualties reported after Turkish planes shell Kurdistan district
No injuries or deaths were reported following the incident.
Kuestan Ahmed from Warte directorate said Turkish planes starting bombing the area near Zargale village between 3.00 am and 4.00 am Erbil time.
"Hopefully the shelling did not produce any material damages to the people in the area," Ahmed added.
Ahmed said that residents had previously vacated the bombed area, as they only return in spring and summer for agriculture purposes.
Zargale village is near the Qandil Mountains, 30km northeast of Rawanduz.
The border areas between Iraq, Turkey and Iran have been subjected to artillery attacks and raids by Turkish military aircraft since 2007 under the pretext of striking out members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) found there.
The Turkish parliament extended its permission to the government to launch air raids against PKK strongholds in the border areas of the Kurdistan Region for one year on October 5, 2011.
